My sketchbook can be two things. It can be a space to practice form, anatomy, and perspective, and it also can be a place to work through creative ideas even if I don’t have the time or resources to turn it into something large and finished.

Digital Sketchbook

Digital art is a medium I have only begun to interact with over the past month or so. I initially found it difficult to get into, having only worked with traditional art previously, but the more time I spent with it, the more fun it became.

I’ve enjoyed playing with different styles.

The Queen of Hearts head- Paper Mache

While I was not the sole person who put together this project, due to the scale of it, I was the leader and designer for the whole thing. I needed to create a head for the “Queen of Hearts” character in my school’s production of Alice and Wonderland.

Over a couple weeks, I went from drawings and designs to crafting the head with paper mâché, to painting it in collaboration with the costume crew.

At this point, clay was something I had never really worked with before, so I tried to incorporate ideas that I already understood into it. When I draw a 2D piece, I understand that what I’m doing is attempting to carve out a 3D figure in space while working in 2 dimensions. I tried to apply that here, and think about it the same way that I think about a drawing.
